Hello! I'm here! Having visited the Walk In centre I spent the rest of the day in bed but now I'm too wide awake too sleep What is one supposed to do in the middle of the night? The 'out of hours' doc decided, in his wisdom, that a home visit wasn't necessary so I went to bed. The chap at the 'Walk In' barely knew the first thing about RA and even less about Mtx and Enbrel. When I started talking about Neutropenia he went to get back up in the form of another doc; their combined ages couldn't have been much more than 50 Useless They couldn't seem to get the urine results from Friday, seemed to think they wouldn't be on the system until Monday! Actually I don't think they were familiar with the computer! Fools kept pressing the wrong keys I had no signs of fever or anything else so they were puzzled to say the least. Their suggestion was to "see how you go on"!! So, I'm going to rest this weekend but if things get worse I will go to A&E (although they did send my son home with a broken leg and didn't operate on his appendicitis until the appendix had all but ruptured and the list goes on ... ) although I doubt they can do anything of any substance. I am okay guys and I promise to stay out of trouble. Thank you all for your concern, you are such lovely friends Lyn x

Hi Lyn,
I'm so relieved to hear from you and glad you are ok! Honestly though, I can't believe those "doctors"! How much training do they need to know what neutropenia is? And to realise that if you have no immune system you are not going to show the usual signs of infection? What a waste of time for you Lyn, it's unbelievable. Hope you can get lots of rest today, will you be able to see your own GP tomorrow? Lots of love, Doreen xx

Hi Lyn, I`m so sorry you are getting nowhere fast, and hope you are feeling better. Silly doctors, not knowing about neutropenia, enbrel, MTX etc. How on earth do they qualify? An emergency doc that came to our house was so ignorant of humira he insisted on having a look at the packet, the epi-pen, & the leaflet!! I`m glad you`ve had some rest and are behaving yourself. Take care, Kathleen x

Oh lyn,
I've been unable to get on the forum but had been hearing about all of this from Doreen. I hope that you will post later as I am very concerned about this neglect! I am thinking of you friend (despite my hair). Sending lots of positive thoughts and love,
Eleanor x

Hello friends The saga continues I'm afraid despite kicking up a fuss! Went to the surgery this morning, it's hopeless trying to get through on the phone on a Monday morning, had to discuss the situation with another receptionist. She established the results weren't back but perhaps would be by tomorrow . I explained that 'tomorrow' may be no use in view of the fact I have no immune system and if the infection gets hold ... "Oh I see" she said and proceeded to whisper across the desk "so the problem is a urine infection is it?" "No no no it's the fact that I don't have an immune system right now due to the neutropenia, any infection at all could wipe me out and I just want someone to see me, check me over and prescribe an antibiotic. If tomorrow it turns out I do have an infection I will already be on antibiotics and hopefully problem controlled." "How do you spell "neutropenia"? Are you taking medication for it?" Oh for goodness sake!! "No, it's probably taking the medication for RA that's given me the neutropenia" "What's RA is that a medication?" Where on earth do they get these people?! "Well the best we can do is get Linda, the triage nurse, to phone you at half past four" Half past four came and went, as did the next thirty five minutes. When Linda did call I got greeted with "This is Linda from the surgery"; no hello I understand you are having a problem, how can I help you and other pleasant formalities. Explained it all again and all I got was "Well I'm not sure what I can do?" Duh, well you could try phoning the lab to get the test results for starters! But no, I got a discourse on what methotrexate can do to the immune system, like I didn't already know! She said she could perhaps do a dip test?! Hell bells what's with these people? "No I don't want a b****y dip test I want to see a doctor, my doctor". "Dr B has an appointment tomorrow at 10.30?" "After all this messing about I would like to see Dr W my Gp " "He has an appointment at 6.10pm tomorrow" And that's where I'm at. I shall have plenty to say to my GP tomorrow. It's an absolute circus and to be honest if I'd gone to A&E that too would have been a complete shambles!! Fortunately I still feel okay although I now feel that due to delays I may have evoked OCD because I'm now obsessed with checking urine samples for signs of improvement or not!!! Temperatures still a bit up and down so I'm not right, but okay. Thank you all for thinking about me. Will keep you posted! Jenni I didn't mind you phoning at all and felt very touched by your concern. Eleanor surely your hair is growing again now? Just think if I'd had to chop off your hand ... Lyn x

I'm speechless Lyn!
Have you got any hair left or have you torn it all out?
Thinking of you and willing what little immune system you have left to keep going!
I hope you tell your GP to educate not only his receptionists but the nurses too by the sound of it.
Love and hugs, Doreen xx

Oh Lyn, I wish I could be a fly on the wall when you update your GP on the shortcomings of (a) his surgery,(b) his nursing & reception staff, and (c) the NHS asa a whole!! Get the red boots on before you go! Seriously, I do hope your appointment will be fruitful, as it`s shocking that no-one has listened to you, let alone taken some action. Take care, Kathleen x

Evening Lyn
Just following on from the sentiments of Doreen and Kathleen, I so much hope you get all the understanding you so deserve from your doctor tomorrow. All this stress put upon, and I ve had a fair amount myself, doesn t do you any good at all, as thats well worth spelling out to him tomorrow, I had such a bad experience with my designated doctor at the surgery I would not see her again, it was that bad. I am fairly easy going but there s only so much one can take.
Sending my best wishes to you Lyn,
Julia x

O Lyn, I am speechless too!
A Dr receptionist who doesn't know what RA is?????????????
Oh my goodness, perhaps it is time to change GPs!
I am praying for you here and hoping you are seen TODAY! You should be a PRIORITY!
Off to sigh into my cup of tea.
Love,
Amanda

Lyn - this is just shambolic. Could you not go back to the surgery and say you are not leaving until you have seen a GP. I had to do this twice at my old GP's and they didn't like it BUT I refused to go until I had been seen and told them they would have to get the police to physically remove me if it wasn't sorted - and it was. Lots of love Jeanxxxxx
